Ethel M. Gilmet age 91 of Midland died Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at Brittany Manor.
The daughter of the late Charles and Agnes (Parker) Fiers was born in Flint on December 13, 1923. Ethel attended schools in Vassar and graduated salutatorian from Vassar High School in 1942. She was a former member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Clare and a member of Our Lady of Grace (St. Agnes Catholic Church) in Sanford. Ethel was also a member of Belles & Beaux’s Square Dancers in Flint, Flushing Road Runners, Script A Model A Club of Bridgeport and the Daughters of Isabella in Davison.
Surviving are two sons, Ralph (Susan) Johnson of Freeland and Eric (Julie) Johnson Sr. of Erie, Pennsylvania; two stepdaughters Peggy (Robert) Jackson of Flint, Patti (Richard) Carey of Granbury, Texas; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph N. Johnson in 1957 and her second husband, of 49 years, Truman (Lefty) Gilmet in 2013; daughter Nancy Johnson; sisters June Stakolsa, Pauline Fiers, Bonnie Rodgers and grandson Corey Campbell.
