Daughter of Cullen and Bessie Holley was born in Edenton, North Carolina on July 14, 1937.
Ethel later met Samuel Johnson, Sr., and were married. Ethel and Samuel relocated to New York and started their family.
They moved to Amsterdam Houses and it was here the family grew to a total of six loving children; Debra, Samuel, Jr, Jessie, Gerard, Anthony and Gregory.
After a brief illness, Ethel departed this life and began her eternal journey on September 29, 2021. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Debra, Samuel, Jr., Jessie, Gerard, Anthony and Gregory; her grandchildren, Samantha, Cerissa, Alshea, Floyd and Sylvester; great-grandchildren, Julius, Caiden and Jade; her long time companion, Kelly and a host of other relatives, community and friends.
