Ethel L. Smith, 89, passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at the Muncie Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born February 1, 1921, in Beardstown, Illinois, the daughter of Ralph Tony and Jessie Mae “Gossage” Hance. She moved to Muncie in 1949 from Missouri.
Mrs. Smith was formerly employed at Indiana Steel, Goodyear, Douglas Furniture and Lancaster Glass.
Surviving are her daughter, Lola Harnish, Muncie; three sons, Tony Edward Smith, Springport, Denton Smith, (wife, Genie), Muncie, and Ralph Kenneth Smith, (wife, Gail), Gaston; her half-brothers and half-sisters, Billy Hance, Randy Hance, Helen, Norma and Karen; seven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and ten great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Edward Smith, who died in 1987; her brother, Don Hance; two sisters, Peggy Beaty and Virginia Gilmore; and two grandchildren.
