Ethel Gene “Genie” Sterling took the hand of Jesus and went home peacefully while at home on April 12, 2010 with her husband and daughter by her side.  Genie was born Oct. 31, 1928, in Sheridan, Wyoming to Matthew Martin and Dora Hazzard Thoet.  She grew up in Powder River County with her sisters and brothers.  She married Joe Sterling Oct. 28, 1949 in Sheridan and spent the next several years in Wyoming raising her four children, Linda, Sandy, Ron & Joe.  In 1962, the family returned to Broadus.  She was an accomplished homemaker, gardener and an excellent cook.  She loved cooking for her family, sewing quilts for them, crocheting, and decorating for all holiday seasons.

After retirement from the oil industry, Joe and Genie lived in Powell and Ten Sleep, Wyoming. In 2003, they moved to Kalispell to be close to Sandy and her family.  They enjoyed many family celebrations while in Kalispell.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents as well as a sister, Florine, and three brothers, Myron, Harry and Howard.  She is survived by her husband Joe, all of her children, Linda and Mike of Kelso, Washington, Sandy and Mick of Kalispell, Ron and Linda of Casper, Wyoming and Joe and Susan of Ten Sleep, Wyoming.  She is also survived by her sisters Elsie and Mildred of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming.  She has 6 grandchildren, Missy, Zach, Hilary, Jed, Dustin and Kayla. Her great-grandchildren are Courtney, Cody, Ethan, Madison, Coben, Silas, Maverick and Holden.  She has one great-great grandchild, Jaiden.
