Ethel “Cookie” Mae Ogden

Ethel “Cookie” Ogden passed away peacefully on Monday, February 21, 2011 at North Valley Medical Center in Gooding, Idaho.  She had struggled with COPD for the past five years, and succumbed to that long term illness due to symptoms caused by influenza.

Cookie was born on July 22, 1941 in Hibbing, Minnesota to Amos and Leona Birdsall.  Amos was always on the go, and worked moving from farm to farm with his wife and children in places including Oregon, California, and Texas.  Once the growing season was over, they always went “home” to Minnesota.  Singing and playing guitar were one of Cookie’s talents that she developed while growing up in her large family of eight siblings, including Irven, Richard, Sonny (Seth), Sis (Marvel), Nooks (Duane), Bezil (Guy), and Bitsy (Amos).

In 1958 Cookie married Bob Frazer.  Cookie and Bob lived in Clovis, California and Wyoming, Minnesota.  In 1959 they welcomed a son, Terry Frazer, to their lives.  Part of their lives always included animals, and the big Great Danes that Cookie loved and raised.

In 1967 Cookie married Ron Scott.  Ron and Cookie started out in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where they became parents of another son, Jayme Scott, in 1970.  Not long after Jayme arrived, Cookie and Ron moved to Gooding, Idaho to be closer to Cookie’s sister.  They eventually settled in Bliss, Idaho where Cookie was a dog breeder and groomer at her home in the canyon below Bliss near the Snake River.  Cookie and Sis spent many hours combing the plowed fields in the canyon in search of arrowheads, and became quite adept and spotting them in the toiled land.

In 1976 Cookie married Doug Ogden, whom she worked with at Magic Valley Foods in Glenns Ferry and Burley, Idaho.  They lived in both towns over the years, and enjoyed raising race horses and going to the track on weekends to watch their horses run. While working here, Cookie met  her best and life-long friends, Georgia and Jacke Hageman.  They quickly became a strong and dependable part of Cookie’s life and family. Cookie continued to work at Magic Valley Foods until 2007, working her way up from picking potatoes off the line to becoming the Quality Assurance Manager in the office.

In 1991 Cookie moved to Gooding, Idaho to live with Sis and Lonnie.  Georgia and Jacke soon followed, keeping the ‘family’ together.

In 2001, Cookie lost her Sister.  At this time she purchased her own ‘little house,’ which she took time and energy investing in to make it into her own home. This gave her yet another reason to go shopping!

In 2010, due to her illness, Cookie moved into Bennett Hills Care and Rehab in Gooding, Idaho.  It wasn’t long until the other residents, and especially the staff, grew to love her outlook and happy approach to life.  She made sure she told everyone that you don’t need anyone else to make you happy, and the last 20 years of her life were the happiest.

Cookie will be missed greatly by her children, Terry (& Eilleen) Frazer, of Sandpoint, Idaho, and Jayme Scott of Bakersfield, California, and her grandchildren, Robbie Frazer (Coeur d’Alene, Idaho), Brodie Scott (Bakersfield, CA) and Gracie Scott (Northwood, ND). She will also be missed by her niece and nephew, Renee and Pete Orth, of Gooding, and their children, Austin and Andrea.  We spent many days together enjoying living life, and you will always be with us in our hearts.  Cookie was preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Leona Birdsall, and all of her siblings, Irven, Dick, Sonny, Sis, Nooks, Bezil, and Bitsy.
