Esther Rieke, 87, formerly of Earlville, Ottawa and Dunlap, died on Monday morning, March 18, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
Esther was born on May 14, 1931 in Oakdale, IL to Thomas and Georgia (Gault) McLean. She attended Southern Illinois University and Northern Illinois University getting a degree in Home Economics. While she was at Southern Illinois University she met and married Herbert Logan Rieke on Feb.13, 1954.
She was a homemaker and substitute teacher while living in Mendota and Earlville, IL. Later, after moving to Ottawa, she worked in the Human Resources Department at Community Hospital of Ottawa for 20 years. Upon retirement, she moved to Dunlap, IL to be near family and was a member of the Northminster Presbyterian Church, the little Garden Club of Peoria, and the Dunlap Homemakers of Peoria.
She is survived by four daughters: Diana Underwood, of Sheboygan, Wisc., Nancee (Dale) Shipe, of Fond du Lac, Wisc., Susan (Mark) Schanowski, of Winfield, and Cynthia (John) Mueller, of Dunlap, ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one brother, Bruce McLean.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herb, on June 11, 2014, a son-in-law, Ronald Underwood, one sister, Nellie McLean, and two brothers, Thomas and Elmer McLean. Pallbearers will be: Dale and Kurt Shipe, Mark and Eric Schanowski, John Mueller, and Mike Underwood.
