Esther M. Raver, 86, passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at her residence near Enochsburg, Indiana.
Born, May 3, 1924 in Decatur County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Ben and Catherine (Torline) Volk.
Esther was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Enochsburg.
She graduated from New Point High School in 1943, she attended Purdue University, and in January of 1944, she entered Nurses’ Training at Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati, Ohio, in the U.S. Cadet Nurse Program. She graduated in 1947 as an R.N.
Esther married Hubert L. Raver on September 27, 1952, and he survives.
Esther worked as a registered nurse in the maternity departments for both Decatur County Memorial Hospital and Margaret Mary Community Hospital before retiring in 1986.
Esther is survived by her husband, one son; Michael Raver, Enochsburg, 4 daughters; Sara (Dale) Hermesch, Millhousen, Kate (Norbert) Bedel, Millhousen, Monica (Joe) Neuman, Rush County, Mary (Tom) Bedel, Enochsburg, 19 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 6 brothers; Charles Volk, Louis Volk, August Volk, Edward Volk, Paul Volk, Cletus Volk, and one sister; Isabella Volk.
