Esther M. Duriga, age 98, of Salem Ohio, died at 3:15 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at the Auburn Skilled Nursing Center. She was born November 21, 1915 in Louisville, KY, daughter of the late Samuel C. and Lelar (Farmer) Graybeal. Esther had worked as a clerk at the Isaly’s Store in Damascus and was a Girl Scout Leader with Troup #25. She was a graduate of the Rising Sun High School in Maryland. Her husband of 71½ years, Charles Duriga, whom she married on Aug. 9, 1932, preceded her in death on Feb. 19, 2004. A son, Joseph Duriga passed away May 2013, and brothers, Ernest Walter Graybeal, Charles Graybeal, Gene Graybeal, John Graybeal and James Graybeal also preceded her in death. Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn Caldwell of Salem, Betty Filban of Columbiana and Charlene (James) Akenhead of Alliance; three sisters, Pern Wukotich, Bertie Wukotich of Salem and Bettie Donahoo of Aberdeen, Maryland; a brother, Sam Graybeal of Galena, Maryland; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
