It was Friday the 13th in January 2023, when Esther Lyon said “Beam me up Scotty, punch my ticket,” and drew her last breath on this earth.

Esther was born August 20, 1938, in Cortez, CO to the late Edward William Cooper and Mary Lenora Hoges.

Esther tried her hand at love and had a daughter, Crystal Villers, who preceded her in death.

Helping her father on the farm limited her education, but that did not stop Esther from achieving her goals. She had various jobs in Farmington, NM, before landing what became her favorite and most successful one in sales at KOBF, where she gained many close friends and colleagues.

Esther enjoyed dancing and traveling and was living her best life when she married her forever dance partner in 1996, M.G. “Smokey” Lyon, who preceded her in death. She enjoyed accompanying her friend Jackie Kelley to garage sales and delighted in turning her treasures into various projects she would later share with friends and family.

Esther was passionate, direct, to the point, and often said to “have no filter. “ She portrayed a tough shell but possessed a soft interior. Incredibly generous, Esther had a piece of advice for everyone – even when they didn’t seek it. She was known for her humor and one-liners, but most importantly, she was always someone people could count on. Her loving nature, playfulness, and occasional endearing stubbornness sum up the wonderful things remembered of Esther.

Esther leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
