Esther Louise Broadbent Linford was born on September 15, 1921 in Salt Lake City, Utah, and adopted by Leslie and Rula Kelsch Broadbent as an infant. She grew up in Salt Lake City. As a telephone operator for the phone company in SLC, she met the love of her life, Don Crockett Linford of Kaysville, Utah in 1944. Don and Esther were married on August 14th, 1945, the day World War II ended. They then rode the train to San Francisco where dad was immediately deployed to Okinawa to serve overseas in the Army Air Corps. In 1947, they were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake City LDS temple.
Family was always first and foremost to Don and Esther, who raised five children: Marsha Linford of Boise, ID; Ted (Karen) of Seeley Lake, MT; Richard (Lindsey) of Boise, ID; Marianne McIntosh (Mike Reuling) of Boise, ID; and David (Neysa) of Missoula, MT. Mom and Dad could be found just about any day of the week cheering on their children whether in football, basketball, swimming, baseball or music. As a family, we lived on the water…we all loved water sports! Dad drove the boat and mom always had the best clam chowder waiting when we arrived home tired and hungry.
Esther was the proud grandmother of 13 grandchildren (Aaron, Ian, Jim, Sadie, Jessa, Kelsey, Seth, Ryan, Abby, Dax, Dane, Jurell and Lauren) and four great-grandchildren (Camden, Brody, Alexa and Brandon).
Our family would like to thank our angels on earth who provided such loving care and companionship for Mom in her final year: Rhondolyn, Candace, Angela, Melissa, Carol and Porche.
Mom was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, and two infant daughters, Sally Ann and Michelle.
Mom always said to us that she “was holding us close”. Now and forever, mom, we’re holding you close…
