In Loving Memory
Esther Faye Rushing

Esther Faye Roberts Rushing was born on January 18, 1919, in North Carolina to Belle and Stokes Roberts. Her siblings included Helen Roberts Saucier, Delmar Roberts, John A. Roberts, Bernice Roberts Moore, Jenny Roberts Hulen, infant boy Ray Roberts, and her only sister who survives her, Annie Ruth Gray of Rayville, and her husband Carl Gray. When Esther was 14, she moved with her family to Louisiana to begin farming.

On January 14, 1939, she married Truman Rushing, under a street light in Winnsboro, LA. Together they had a son, Truman “Sonny” Rushing in 1940. She liked to say she was a simple woman who lived a simple life. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and baking. Best known, for her famous pineapple cake.

Esther’s greatest gift was the compassion she felt for others. Her calmness soothed all those that were around her. She gave to those in need, either emotionally, or financially.

She took great joy in her family. She lived her final years in the care of her son, Truman, and her daughter-in-law Delores, in Dallas. There she lived close to her grandsons Mark and Greg and their families. That love extended to many nieces and nephews who also survive her, as well as the many children she thought of as her own family.

Esther passed away on September 6, 2011 in Dallas, TX.

A special thanks to Methodist Hospitals of Dallas, and especially to VITAS Hospice Care.
