Estelle D. Clay, 98, of Southbury died peacefully in her sleep at River Glen Health Care Center on Ash Wednesday, March 9, 2011.
The daughter of Leandre and Victoria Boudreau, she was born in Providence, Rhode Island on April 14, 1912 – the day the Titanic sank. She then proceeded to live her life in unsinkable fashion; sweet, charming, kind and gentle, she made lasting friends easily.
Estelle graduated from Edgewood Secretarial School in 1931 and worked as a bookkeeper before retiring to raise two sons in Bristol, RI. She later resumed her professional life and worked for Mitchell Insurance Company in Southbury.
She and her late husband Mervyn Clay moved to Heritage Village in 1968. One of the earliest residents, she was honored in 2007 at the Heritage Village Master Association Fortieth Anniversary Gala. Estelle was skillful in playing badminton and became the Heritage Village Badminton Club champion in 1984. She was also an avid bridge player and expert gardener.
Estelle Clay had two sons, Richard, who has predeceased her and Mervyn, devoted to her memory.
