Estella June Labrum Hessing, age 90, was finally reunited with her beloved husband when she passed from this life on January 23, 2010 in Bountiful, Utah, nearly two months after suffering a stroke.
Estella (“June”) was born on June 4, 1919 to Estella Mae Bates and Leslie Glenn Labrum in Boise, Idaho. She was the fifth child in her family and cherished that she was named after her mother. June grew up in Boise and had many fond childhood memories. She attended Utah State Agricultural College for two years and could still sing the school song in her 90th year. June married her high school sweetheart, James Byron Hessing, on Sept. 30, 1941 in the LDS Temple in Logan, Utah. They were blessed with seven wonderful children: Marcia (Anderson) of Centerville, Utah; Brent, Jeffrey, Bruce and Mark of Boise; Timothy of Orem, Utah; and Ruth-Ellen (Howard) of Layton, Utah.
June was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, a great baker, and an avid whistler. June’s love of music was instilled in her by her mother and June enthusiastically shared such love of music with her own children (and many others) who have in turn shared it with their children and their grandchildren. It is a legacy for which her family is very grateful.
June is survived by her seven children and their families, comprised of 33 grandchildren and 66 great grandchildren (with nine more great grandchildren on the way!), and her sister Ione (Herzog). June is preceded in death by her parents, Leslie Glenn and Estella Mae; two brothers, Cloyd and Dale; two sisters, Ellen and Wanda; husband James; and grandson Ryan.
