Essie Belle Wright was born in Greenwood, MS on March 25, 1941, to the late Johnny G. Williams and Gennie Mae Hawkins. She resided with her grandmother until the age of 12, and then decided to move with her mother in Bloomington, IL.
Later in life, she moved to Flint, MI with her two daughters, where she met Johnnie Wright. They fell in love and were married for 48 years. She was employed by General Motors for 29 years. After retirement, she moved to Decatur, AL with her husband.
She became a member of Progressive Christian Outreach Ministry where she served as an usher and a Mother. She started Project Hope, where she would supply children with school supplies and clothes. She was a faithful servant until the Lord called her home. Everyone loved Mother Wright’s cooking. She will truly be missed.
She departed this life on January 18, 2018 surrounded by loved ones.
Essie was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny G. Williams and Gennie Mae Hawkins-Ross; husband, Johnnie Lee Wright; daughter, Monica Jean Wilson; and brother, Richard Hill.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Terri Lynn Bell, Decatur; stepdaughters, Tracey Wright, Pamela Wright, Angela Wright of Des Moines, IA, La Ventus Love, Clearview, UT; stepson, Johnny Townsend, Flint, MI; grandchildren, Moeccah Wilson, Raymond Wilson, Jr., Laumann Bell, Monica Racquel Wilson, Brittney Greer; son-in-law, Raymond Wilson, Sr.; brothers, Robert (Betty) Williams and Henry Williams of Flint, MI, Walter (Bobbie) Williams, Suffolk, VA, Benjamin Williams, Houston, TX, Willie Curtis, Chicago, IL; sisters, Rosemary (Henry) Miller, Meridianville, MS, Naomi Ross, Flint, MI, Rosa Mae Woods, Clarksdale, MS; five great-grandchildren, La’marion, Montaria, Aaron, Harmony and Suriayh; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and her church family.
