Errolyn M. Sooy, age 77, born in Rutland, Vermont on May 27, 1941 to Roderick and Jessie (McNeese) Shackett, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in the early morning hours on August 24, 2018. Her life and legacy will always be remembered as one of love of God, kindness and compassion to those around her, and a love for her family. After graduating from Elyria high school, she worked for Sears and Roebuck. On November 3, 1962, she married Lee A. Sooy, a local farmer from Grafton, Ohio, and began a lifelong journey as a loving wife and mother. Together, Lee and Errolyn established Sooy Farms, a dairy and grain production business. In addition to being a farm wife and mother of three, Errolyn served the community for 30 years as a bus driver for Midview Local Schools. In her early twenties, Errolyn accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and it changed her life. As a member of Belden Methodist Church, she passionately pursued her musical talent as a pianist, organist, and vocalist. A musical trio, The Beldenaires, was formed in the mid-70’s by Errolyn, Tess Reisinger, and Muriel Hosey. As musicians, they recorded an album and toured the tri-state area, ministering to churches and groups with their unique blend of voice and Southern gospel style. With over 40 years of ministry and friendship, the Beldenaires recently sang at Belden UMC and at Keystone Pointe on July 29th, 2018.
Errolyn will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Errolyn is survived by her husband of 56 years, Lee Sooy, of Grafton, Ohio, sons Brian (Carmen) Sooy of Pembroke Pines, Florida, and Scott (April) Sooy of Grafton, Ohio; a daughter, Sherilyn Baldwin of Grafton, Ohio; her sister, Sharon Brichford of Ravenna, Ohio; her beloved grandchildren Brianna, Bethany, and Bryant of Pembroke Pines, Florida; Daniel, Joseph, and Stephen of Grafton, Ohio; and Tyler, Nathan, and Michael, of Grafton, Ohio.
