Ernie F. Nichols “Big Ern” made his way to heaven on October 15, 2007. Ernie was born on September 27, 1970, and had just celebrated his 37th birthday.
He was employed by Electric Motor Service, in Beverly, where he proudly worked side by side with his dad. His greatest passion was the fire department. He was a member of the Mitchell Fire Company, in Burlington, and also the Hope Hose Company, in Beverly. He often talked about how much he valued the wonderful friendships he had with his “firehouse family”. He was also a member of the Athletic Association of Beverly and the F.K.C. Club. Ernie enjoyed fishing, working on CB and stereo equipment, spending time on his computer, and most of all, he loved his family and friends. They were always his first priority. Everyone who knew him will remember his quick wit, the sparkle in his eyes, and his ability to make them smile. He will be greatly missed by all of us.
With loving memories to cherish, Ernie leaves behind his fiancé, Diane Culbertson, his mother, Marsha Nichols and Fred Ulissi, Jr., of Burlington, his father Frank Nichols and Ann, of Edgewater Park, his stepbrother, Robert Hubler and wife, June and his niece and nephew, Amanda and Nick Hubler.
He is also survived by his aunts and uncles, Margaret and Firman Abdill and Edmund and Virginia Dawson, of Beverly. His family would like to thank the staff at Presbyterian Hospital for the special care given during Ernie’s illness, the members of the Endeavor Emergency Squad, and all the Burlington and Beverly firefighters for their fast response and support, and special thanks the Brent Tomer for his speedy arrival and heroic actions.
