Ernesto De Las Casas Aguirre, 86, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday October 18, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Karen D. Kurvink. Born in Chihuahua, Mexico, he was the son of the late Ernesto De Las Casas Quintana and Carolina Aguirre Aguirre. Ernesto was a graduate of the University of Minnesota where he earned his PhD in Entomology.  Ernesto lived a productive and gentle life.  His early educational years were primarily in Chihuahua, Mexico.

Educational research opportunities from The University of Minnesota allowed him to learn English, complete course work, and most significantly develop creative research activities primarily in entomology.  Following his obtaining a Ph.D. and postdoc research studies, he was fortunate to be offered a position at FAO of the United Nations in Rome, Italy.  FAO’s position offered Ernesto the opportunity to continue his entomology research but also to assist farmers in many developing countries who have special needs.

Ernesto was a positive and successful scientist.  He accepted the challenges and excitement of his work and his interactions with fellow workers.

Throughout his life, Ernesto found time to enjoy sports such as swimming, racquetball, running, and other activities including dancing, listening to music, and loving his family.  He had a gentle way of guiding his life and his family and friends.  He will be missed.

Survivors: In addition to his loving wife Karen; sons David De Las Casas Kurvink and Ernesto De Las Casas Gomez; siblings Santiago De Las Casas Aguirre and Rosa Maria De Las Casas Aguirre and his loving grandson Gavin De Las Casas Kurvink.
