Ernestine McVay Pierce passed away in her sleep, at the age of 80, on Friday August 1, 2014 at her home. Born June 24, 1934 in Jena, LA., she has been a resident of Mobile the better part of 50 years. Ernestine was baptized at the Pentecostals of Saraland Church.
Ms. Pierce is preceded in death by her father and mother Rev. Yancy W. and Spivie L. McVay, one son Billy Oran Brown, Jr., one grandson, Matthew David Mitchell, three brothers, Lacy Y. McVay, William H. McVay, and Darius Kennon McVay, and one sister Virginia McVay Parmer.
Ernestine is survived by son Robert “Bobby” (Karen) Brown, three daughters, Diane (Darrell) Minor, Kaye Pierce and devoted friend Wayne Nelson, and Patricia Gaylor, one surviving sister Melba Lee (Mikle) Christie, one sister-in-law of 56 years Molly McNeil McVay, one step-son Bubba (Mildred) Gaylor, and one step-daughter Barbara Anne (Jerry) Lewis, 19 grandchildren and their spouses, 21 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Her hobbies included gardening and sewing.
