Ernest Wainwright
Gales Ferry, CT – Ernest Wainwright 91, died Thursday, March 21, 2013 at his home with his daughter by his side after a long illness.
He was born in New London on June 16, 1921 son of the late Walter and Clara (Holly) Wainwright. As a boy, he lived for five years in Panama, where he loved to go shrimping. Ernest had many fond memories of Panama that he loved to share. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II. Ernest worked for the government at the Underwater Sound Lab for 35 years. Mr. Wainwright was known as a man of good nature, human kindness, great generosity and brought joy to many. Ernest lived his life well, walking six miles a day. He was an avid gardener and a tremendous father and husband. In August of 1942 he was united in marriage to Margaret Gonsowski in Michigan. Mrs. Wainwright predeceased her husband in 2011. Ernest was also predeceased by a son Timothy Wainwright in 2009, two brothers Walter Wainwright and Francis Wainwright and a sister Joan Alger, all of whom he loved dearly.
Survivors include a daughter Patricia Wainwright of Gales Ferry and a grandson, Joseph Baracco of Sarasota, FL.
