Ernest Theodore Swinden, January 9, 1921 – June 15, 2014.
Ernest Theodore Swinden, age 93 of Belton, passed away at home June 15. Ernest was born January 9, 1921 to Alfred William and Lydia Bernice (Belcher) Swinden in Houston, Texas. He entered the U. S. Air Force and served in World War II and Korea before retiring with 24 years of active duty. After retiring, Mr. Swinden worked for 20 years as a real estate broker in Colorado and also as a financial/investment advisor for the insurance industry in Colorado and Texas.
Ernest retained his certification as a financial advisor until he turned 91 years old, citing the reason as “so I can help people plan for their retirement years and make sure their finances are secure.” Ernest was an active member of the Belton Senior Center and was the “Skip-Bo” champion there. He was a member of Miller Heights Baptist Church. He had a very high expectation of the world’s basic integrity and always saw the positive side of people. He had a very generous and loving heart.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Patti Loydell Wheadon Swinden and his second wife, Ellen M. Pence Swinden, a son, Robert Ernest Swinden, two brothers, C. J. Swinden and Elbert Dennis Swinden, and one sister, Esther Walker. Survivors include a son, Gary Swinden; a daughter, Connie Swinden; a sister, Alberta Dorothy Shipp, seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
