Ernest “Ernie” Middleton, 70, of West Haven departed this life January 27, 2014. Born in St. Stephen, South Carolina on December 19, 1943, he was the son of the late Simon and Eloise Middleton. He grew up learning the importance of family and the value of hard work. He graduated from Russellville High School and traveled to Connecticut where he met and married his wife of 46 years, Emily. For many years Ernie worked as an electrician for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 90 before retiring in the late 80’s.  He enjoyed watching sports, especially rooting for his beloved Cleveland Browns, New York Yankees and Philadelphia 76ers. Ernie was known for his constant joking, his ability to give many people in his life a nickname, and for never forgetting a birthday. Ernie leaves behind many loved ones to cherish his memory including son Eric Middleton, daughter Tanya (Aaron) Mills, daughter Jaqueline Swinton and son Benjamin Swinton; His brothers, St. Julian (Rosalee), Samuel (Bertha), Leroy, and Fred Middleton; Sisters Alberta (Chris) Henry, Rose (Lawrence ) Jenkins,  Ann Middleton, Mae (Calvin) Nicholson, and Rebecca (Charles) Kelly.  He also leaves behind two brother and sister-in-laws, Prime (Deloris) Elliot and Larry (Cheryl) Brown; 10 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Emily and his parents.
