Ernest Nodland, 95, of Freedom Twp., died Sunday, July 8, at his home.
Mr. Nodland was born on Oct. 1, 1916 in Morris to Severt and Anna (Danielson) Nodland. He married Lois Hepner on December 6, 1941 in Batavia in the home of Reverend Tuck. Attendants were Ona Hepner, her sister, and Kermit Ryg, Ona’s future husband. Ernie farmed for 80 years. He was a member of the Harding United Methodist Church and the Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his wife, Lois, one son, Merlin (Carol) of rural Ottawa, three grandchildren, Dean Nodland, Molly Strobel, and Joseph Nodland, all of Ottawa, 7 great-grandchildren, one brother Bob Nodland, of Westminster, California, and one sister, Helen Phelps, of Long Beach, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Jesse, Don, and Russell; one sister, Agnes and a grandson-in-law, Chris Strobel. Memorials may be directed to the Ottawa First Church of the Nazarene Prayer Team or Harding United Methodist Church. Pallbearers will be: Jeff Morehead, Marty Ryg, Gaylon Ryg, Chuck Nodland, Chuck Aubry, and Ronnie Ray Peddicord
