Ernest Grey Young, age 87 passed away peacefully with family on December 29, 2022.
Ernest Grey Young was born March 5, 1935 in Rayville, LA. He enlisted in the military at the age of 17 and proudly served his country for 20 years in the Army and Air Force. Ernest was a Korean and Vietnam War Veteran and had a profound love and respect for his country and displayed a lifelong patriotism. In December of 1954, he married his first love, Hazel Marie Young (Gray), whom he spent 59 years with and the couple was blessed with three children, Ramona, Tony, and Ricky. Ernest deeply loved Hazel and compassionately cared for her until her passing in 2014. He enjoyed roller skating, playing sports, fishing, scuba diving, swimming, water skiing, boating, gardening, and reading.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Marie (Huffty) Young; children, Ramona Murphy, Ricky Young, and Tony Young; step-daughters, Susan Ruatto and Robin Matthews; siblings, Roger Stephenson, Yvonne Coleman, and Elaine Draper; grandchildren, Rebecca Hendershot, Rachel Hornbaker, Mandy Young, Kyle Young, Jessica-Ann Peel, Tommy Young, Kayla Durham, Amy Carter; step-granddaughters, Angela Ruatto and Aubrey Matthews; great-grandchildren, Sydney Boyle, Joseph Boyle, Kara Hornbaker, Ashlyn Hornbaker, Isabella Hendershot, Aspen Ruatto, and Austen Ruatto; nieces and nephews.
