DURHAM Mr. Ernest Clinton “Buck” Layton, Jr., 93, of Durham, passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2017.
Mr. Layton was born in Franklin County, the son of the late Ernest Clinton Layton and Bessie Abernathy Layton. He was a retired Tobacconist. He was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church. He was a member of the Bethesda Ruritan Club for over 50 years and received the Ruritan Forever Award. Mr. Layton is preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Clara Bailey Layton; son, Trent L. Layton; grandchildren, Jennifer Layton, Bailey Layton; daughters in law, Patricia Layton and Sophie Layton; siblings, Eleanor Edwards, Marie Chadwick, Lucy Cannady, Ernestine Layton, Julius Layton and Ronald Layton.
He is survived by his sons, Talmage Layton (Sandra), Doug Layton (Fredia), and Joe Layton (Gayle); granddaughters, Tracy Garrett (Ronnie), Tammy Thaggard (Michael), Corey Smith (J.T.); grandsons, Justin Layton (Sarah) and Trent Layton; great-grandchildren, Kristan, Anna, and Thomas Garrett, Michael and Cameron Thaggard, Makayla Smith, Carson Layton; brother, Jimmy Layton; sisters, Mavis Nelms, Sue Leonard and Annette Robinson.m. at Bethesda Baptist Church. Rev. Tim Wheeler will officiate.
