Erminio N. Martinelli, 94, of Plainville, died on July 7, 2010. He was born on December 21, 1915 in Mello, Italy to Domenico & Maria (Martinelli) Martinelli.
He came to America at the age of 16 and later became an apprentice in the home construction & CT.roads/new highways fields. He then learned the toolmaker/machinist trade and worked as head foreman at Bristol Machine & Tool Co. during World War II. In 1960 he began Electro Machine & Tool, Inc. (Plant 1 & 2) in Bristol, CT. where he was instrumental in making parts for NASA and the aeronautical industry.
In 1982 he retired to travel with his wife, enjoy his family and entertain his many friends. He loved the game of golf. He continued to play 9 holes until he was 85 years old. He also treasured his yearly garden which reaped vegetables for family & friends. He was also well known for his home-made wine & his home-cooked dinners.
He was a life-long member of BPOE (Benevolent Protective Order of Elks) in Bristol & a founding member of The Italian Social Club in Forestville.
Erminio is survived by his daughters, Melanie Martinelli Gajarsa & her husband Hon. Arthur of Washington, DC and Marie Martinelli of Plainville; 7 grandchildren: James Gajarsa, Karen Guinea Tomczyk & husband Peter, Brian Martinelli Guinea, Jessica Gajarsa & husband Jason Toth, Melissa Gajarsa & husband Matthew Abbott, Jason Gajarsa & wife Alyson Barker & Robert Gajarsa & wife Kyleen; 5 great-grandchildren: Elyssa & Sarah Tomczyk, Zachary & Zoe Abbott & Francesca Gajarsa; a brother & sister-in-law Marino & Betty Martinelli; a sister Ida Martinelli; brothers-in laws, sisters-in-laws and several nieces & nephews.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Lena (Tarca) Martinelli, his infant daughter Marjorie Martinelli, his sister Mary Roberts, his brother & sister-in-law Martin & Alice Martinelli, his niece Valerie (Guarino) Calavolpe, and his nephew David E. Martinelli.
