Erik Clifford Lawson, 49,of Greensboro, NC passed unexpectedly on October 15, 2021. A man of passion and love, Erik left his impression on many. With more common sense than most have in their pinky, or so he said, he left this world for another. Not one to believe in the “floating fantasy sky god” (his words, so respectfully for him they shall be included) he did voice his affirmation in science and the transcendence into another realm after this life is over. While he wasn’t one to thump the Bible with the best of them, he was in no way a bad person. He believed that
one should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.
Authority is, shall we say, not a positive topic for him. He was not one to enjoy the oppressive thumb of authority and he passionately believed
the struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.
And along with authority stating how we should act and how we shouldn’t, his thoughts were more of
being along the lines of one’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.
What can fondly be remembered most prominently of him is pretty much that the freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend and one needed a thick skin on any debate with him, whether religious or political. He knew what he believed as right and wouldn’t hesitate to inform others. But ultimately his
beliefs were that they should conform to one’s best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one’s beliefs.
He believed the spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word. So if we do run into him in the next transcendence, we are sure he’d love to down a good beer and laugh over the good times, have compassion over the bad, and forgive over any wrongs. Regardless of creed, he was accepting. A talented musician, a protective family member or friend, a great grill chef, and above all a hard headed anti authoritarian/anti religious freedom fighter.
He will be sorely missed and is survived by his three sons, Nick, Lee and Cole, his grandson Grayson, sisters Heather and Karen, and his brother Aidan, as well as numerous cousin, aunts and uncles.
