Eric McMullen Sr. was born on January 25, 1958, to Marjorie Wilson-McMullen and Johnny Henry in Manhattan, NY. He was the youngest of two children and grew up in Harlem. His father passed away early in his life, so Eric was raised by his mother alone, whom she loved with all her heart. Eric attended Brandeis High School and graduated in 1976.
He married Denise Epps (Aaron) in 1980 and within that union, had six children – Eric Jr., Sherell, Tineesha, Shaunice, Tiffany and Michael. They later divorced in 1992 but remained on good terms.
A man of many talents, Eric was a musician – singer, song writer, self-taught piano player and entertainer. His singing group won several Amateur nights at the world-famous Apollo theater. We can still remember them rehearsing many evenings to the hits of the Stylistics, O’Jays and Temptations.
He had a natural talent for playing cards. He played Blackjack, Poker, Bid Whist, Hearts and Spades. He would travel the country, playing at several casinos and winning many tournaments. He also was a Chess Master. You could often find him on Lenox Ave playing in chess matches. He was known to many as Doc.
Eric always had an upbeat and outgoing personality.
Eric will be dearly missed! We are at peace knowing that he is resting now and in the hands of our loving and merciful God Jehovah.
