Emmett Ray Walker, age 84, stepped into Eternity on Wednesday August 16, 2017.
His only child, Jed, was with him at home as he peacefully left this world to meet Jesus. He is once again holding his beautiful bride, Judy, happy and whole. No more Alzheimer’s.
He was born February 11, 1933, in Gallant, AL. He is preceded in death by his wife, Judith Lynn Kroelinger Walker (Judy), his parents Clarence Lee Walker and Ola Mae Walker, a sister, Clara Talton and a brother, Donald Walker. He is survived by one son, Jed (Cindy) Walker of Madison, AL. Three grandchildren, Logan (Kaylee) Walker of Florence, AL, twin granddaughters, Allison Booker and Shannon Shumate, both of Madison, AL. Three great-grandchildren, Liv Lenore Walker, Paul-Pierre and Layla Jane Booker. He is also survived by two brothers, Lowell (Ruth) Walker, of Attalla, AL and Jimmie (Joyce) Walker of Titusville, FL and one sister, Peggy (Marvin) Bishop, of Aiken, SC.
He served our country during the Korean War in the US Air Force, stationed in Germany from 1953-1957. He and Judy were married on December 22, 1957. After their only child, Jed, was born, they moved to Birmingham, AL. There, they were faithful members of Roebuck Park Baptist Church, now North for 50 years. He served as Assistant Scout Master, then Scout Master of Troop 51, at the church for 35 years. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and led his son to the rank of Eagle Scout as well as many other young men.
After graduating from Jacksonville State University and moving to Birmingham, he worked at A&P Grocers, Associated Grocers (AG) and Walker Drug Company before retiring. Due to health issues, they moved in with their son, Jed, and daughter-in-law, Cindy, in Madison, in March of 2013.
