Emmett R. Long, Sr. age 85 peacefully passed away on Friday, April 30, 2021, in Newnan surrounded by his loving family. Bud, as he was known by his friends and family, was born on June 11, 1935, in Newnan, GA, and was the youngest of 10 children. He was born to the late Alexander and Mary Long. Bud was a proud graduate of Newnan High School. He was a lifelong member of Lovejoy Memorial United Methodist Church. He had a great love for serving his church and his community. In 1952 Bud earned the great honor of Eagle Scout and supported the scouts until his passing. Bud served his country proudly for 10 years in the National Guard and was a 57-year member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Bud enjoyed a long career in logistics. As a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, he used his work ethic and incredible skill set to enhance transportation and freight movement for local and national companies. As a truck driver, he was a steward of safety and education in his field. He received commendations, certificates of merit, and awards. Along with his parents, Bud is preceded in death by his deeply loved siblings; Haney Long (Irma), Alfred Long (Beatrice), Harry Long (Christine), Wylie Long (Edith), James Long, W.L. Long, Paul Long, Ed Long (Ellen), and his only sister Mary Ann Long Ferrell (Johnnie). His loving Aunt Bettie Cobb. He was also preceded in death by his precious wife of 56 years, Linda Stitcher Long, His beloved son, Emmett R. Long, Jr., His adored son-in-law, Benny Hayes, and his revered in-laws Buford and Essie Neill Stitcher. Bud is survived by his treasured, loving daughter Dora Long Hayes, cherished granddaughters Ashley Hayes Desjardin, Lindy Hayes, and Lindsey Brown, and the great-grandchildren he idolized Benjamin Desjardin and Gethan Rohrbaugh. He is additionally survived by many adored nieces and nephews. Bud was a patriarch and devoted husband to Linda. He had a deeply rooted love of family. He was a kind and generous mentor, lending remarkable insight and support to those he loved. He has spent a lifetime weaving love and encouragement into daily examples of commitment to his family. Leading his loved ones through life with astounding wisdom, charisma, and an impeccable sense of humor. He found great joy in traveling the world with the love of his life, Linda. He was a faithful and noble friend to so many. Bud will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
