Emma T. Matarese (nee Tomasetti) passed away surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, February 8, 2015, at Brandywine Senior Living, in Voorhees at the age of 89. Born in Burlington, Emma was a longtime Burlington Township resident. She graduated from Wilbur Watts High School in 1943. She was one of eleven children born to the late Abramo & Matalena Tomasetti. Emma was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, and loyal friend. Always outgoing and friendly, Emma was an integral part of the family business and a member of the Woman’s Club of Burlington.
In her early days, she sang and played guitar with her sister Adeline entertaining returning WW II troops at the USO in Fort Dix. As an active member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish, St. Paul’s RC Church in Burlington, Emma enjoyed serving as lector well into her 80s. While her grandchildren attended St. Paul’s School, Emma participated in a variety of school activities that continued beyond their graduation. The ever-gracious hostess, Emma welcomed many to her dining table. Her most unique guests were the singing group, The Lettermen, with whom she sang when they appeared at the Latin Casino.
She delighted in telling that story. We will certainly miss Emma’s pizzelle and biscotti that she made for all to enjoy. Emma will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 69 years, Joseph F. Matarese and their daughter Madelyn Kinemond and her husband George, son Joseph Jr. and his wife Constance, granddaughter Jessica Lieberum and her husband Randy, grandson Joseph III and his wife Korrie Rose and their daughter Giavanna Rose. She is survived by her siblings Adeline Stachiotti, Henry Tomasetti, Angeline Calderone, Eleanor Cugliotta-DeSanctis, and Louise Yacona.
She was predeceased by siblings John, Anthony, Joseph, Pasquale, and Anna Tulli.
