Emma Jean (Fields) Prather was born on May 11, 1928 in Booneville, Missouri to Smith and Sara Fields. Emma Jean is one of eight children born out of the union of Smith and Sara. At the age of 16, Emma Jean migrated to Maryland to further her education and to work. During her stay in Maryland, she met and married the love of her life Mr. Robert L. Prather Sr. on July 11, 1948. Robert Sr. and Emma Jean enjoyed 43 years of marriage until his passing in 1991. Their union produced 3 children: Robert L. Jr., Ronald B. Sr. and Candy J. Emma Jean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and so much more to a lot of people.
Emma Jean valued and promoted the advancement of education to anyone who knew her. She was a Sunday School teacher at Popular Grove Baptist Church, and later on in life read to elementary school age children. Emma Jean had such a jovial spirit, a very infectious laughter, but most of all she loved the Lord. Emma Jean is kindly remembered for the various positions that she held at Popular Grove Baptist Church in which she was a member for over 20 years. She is affectionately known to family members and friends as “Momma” , “Genie”, “Deacon Emma Jean” and
“Emma”. Emma Jean enjoyed a rich social and cultural lifestyle with her family and friends, through a variety of family, civic, spiritual and cultural involvements. As we know, she was a very well dressed lady with a vast array of colored “Ta mms”. She later in life joined Victory Christian Church International where she served as a Healing School Technician and was instrumental in the healing of a woman with cancer. Emma Jean was also a faithful member of the Partner Care Ministry.
To
