On Thursday, March 5, 2020, Emma Jean Bowens, loving mother of three children, and published author, passed away at the age of 70 in Braselton, GA.
Emma was born on June 21, 1949 in Loudoun County, VA to her mother, Mary Rena Clay, whom she adored.
Emma received her associate degree from Monmouth University, and continued her education at the Steven’s Institute of Technology. Emma love collecting antiques and fashionable hats and dress suits. She had an infectious-bubbly laugh that proved how sweet and loving she was. Emma was called Mom by so many of her children’s friends, and many knew her as Coco. Everyone loved to be around her. She loved her grandchildren so much, and if you called her you knew it was going to be a long conversation and topics included the adventures of her grandchildren.
Emma was well known in her community for her delicious cooking – Homemade Biscuits, Macaroni and Cheese were a few of her specialties, and she has passed that skill on to her twin daughters.
Emma was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Rena Clay, sisters (Mary Dickerson and Joyce Clay), brothers (Irvin Clay, Randolph Clay, and Melvin Clay), and her granddaughter, Jayda Tyler.
She is survived by her children, Vincent Bowens, Toynettia Gordy (Bowens), Tanya Tyler (Bowens) and Karl Tyler. Grandchildren: Monet Coleman (Bowens), Janee Bowens, Tiava Gordy, Jasmine Orchard, Bryan Edgerson, Shane Orchard, Shawn Orchard, Tiffany Gordy, Amir Tyler, and Paris Tyler. Great Grandchildren: Ayden Gordy and Bryson Edgerson. Her Sisters: Christine Prather (Clay), Katherine Clay, and Brother, Thurston Clay Jr. Also survived by a host of nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces and cousins.
