August 15, 1932 – June 15, 2017

Harlingen, TX –

Emma Jasso Rios entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at the age of 84. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her passing. She had fought a long illness of congestive heart and acute lung cancer. She is preceded in death by her parents, Fernando and Lucia Jasso; and sisters, Marina Flores and Elva Jasso.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Gonzalo Rios Jr. of 50 golden years, and her loving daughters, Yvette (Joe) Tovar of Sachse, TX and Yvonne Trevino (Daniel) of Harlingen, TX. She loved her four grandchildren unconditionally – Valerie Tovar, Joseph “JoJo” Tovar, Josiah Trevino, and Asa Trevino. She is survived by her siblings Viola (Jimmy) Garcia, Nelda (Joe) Trevino, Jay Jasso, Ruben (Diana) Jasso, and Noel Jasso, and several nieces and nephews.

Emma was born in Orange Grove, TX. As a young woman, she worked as a migrant worker in Michigan and West Texas. She was employed as a line supervisor at Alberti’s Seafood and was a supervisor at the Aloe Vera Processing Plant in Harlingen, TX. She was also a successful restaurant owner of Los Rios Mexican Food for a few years. She retired early at the age of 55 to become a homemaker.

She loved the Lord with all her heart, and walked a Christian path, serving as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School leader in various Baptist churches, and attended many Hispanic Baptist Conventions thorughout her life span. She was a current member of First Baptist Church, Harlingen, TX.

She was a lifetime member of the DAV Auxillary Chapter 121 and a lifetime member of the AVVA Chapter 856 in Harlingen, TX.

Emma never met a stranger, everyone who crossed her path admired her with her vibrant charm and love. She had a big and giving heart. She volunteered in various fundraisers which included Camp Corral Veteran Children’s Summer Camps.

Special thanks to Pastor Wade Hood, her church family, Dr. Diana Lozano, Dr. Farley Neasman II, Dr. Alan Trumbly, Kindred Hospice, and to all the medical staff at Golden Palms Rehab for their unconditional love and care. Also to Debbie Alonzo and staff at Golden Corral for their loving support of #WeWearPearlforEmma, and the countless support and prayer that she had nation-wide.
