Mrs. Emma Elaine Gogel (June 17,1928), widow of the late Col. George E. Gogel, passed away from complications due to Alzheimer’s disease on December 17, 2016.
Elaine Gogel was born Emma Jones on a farm in Groveland, Florida and became a self taught teacher of young children in a one-room country schoolhouse.
She married then 1st Lt. Gogel in 1947 and lived around the world as a military wife until 1963 when her husband transferred to NASA and relocated to the Melbourne area. She returned to school and recieved a degree from Stetson University in education. She then founded a group of successful daycare centers in the early 1970s.
She is survived by her son, Gary George Gogel and his wife Wendy of Brighton, Massachusetts, her niece Donna Odom and husband Bobby of Groveland, Florida and her nephew Lamar DuFrene and his wife Carol of Oviedo, Florida.
