Emily Rachel Ciany entered eternal rest peacefully in the comfort of her home, on November 13, 2021, after suffering complications from dementia. Born in 1931 to Emil and Vincentine Salzano; beloved wife of predeceased Matthew Charles for 69 years; devoted mother of Charles & wife Toni, Gary & wife Kathy, Brian, Anne Marie, and predeceased daughter Deborah Gavazzi; loving grandmother to nine, and great-grandmother to five; beloved sister to Joseph, Benjamin and Thomas; also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Emily grew up in Rochester, New York, the eldest of four children in a close-knit, loving Italian-American family. Raised a devout Catholic, she worked as a collection correspondent for General Motors after graduating from high school. During that time, she met Matthew, the love of her life, on a blind date setup by her best friend. After Matthew completed his honorable service in the Navy during WW II, they moved to Syracuse, New York, where he obtained an Engineering degree from Syracuse University and they started their family.
The consummate home-maker, Emily always maintained a clean, comfortable, decorative house and always provided delicious home-cooked meals for her family. Upon moving to Maryland when Matthew started his professional career at Westinghouse, she quickly established close-knit friendships with many of her neighbors, as she was a “people person” who thoroughly enjoyed conversation.
