Emily “Jessie Mae” Middleton, 65, of West Haven departed this life on Dec. 28, 2012 in The Connecticut Hospice, Branford. She was the wife for 46 years of Ernest Middleton. Born in White Hall, South Carolina on March 6, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Annabelle Elliott. She grew up in Charleston, learning the importance of family and the value of hard work. She graduated from Bonds Wilson High School and traveled to Connecticut where she met and married Ernest Middleton. Emily spent much of her professional career as an employee of St. Raphael’s Hospital until her recent retirement last August. Besides her husband, Emily leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Eric Middleton; her daughter, Tanya (Aaron) Mills; her step children, Benjamin and Jaqueline Swinton; her brothers, Prime (Deloris) Elliott and Larry (Cheryl) Brown; her grandchildren, Jasmine Williams, Jade Middleton, Jaden, Shayla and Logan Mills, Lamont, Hermisha, Cedric, Leonte and Joshua Swinton; six great grandchildren; Aunt Mattie Chisolmand; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by two brothers, Paul & Richard Elliott and two sisters, Maggie Middleton and Liz Grant.
