Emily M. DeLois, 86, of Newington died peacefully on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Jefferson House in Newington. Millie was born in Millinocket, Maine, daughter of the late Anthony and Pasqualina (DeBenedetto) D’Aluisio. Millie moved to New Britain in the early 1950’s and resided with her sister Anna Wentworth and her family. She trained as a nurse’s aide at the St. Agnes Home for Unwed Mothers. For many years, she worked as a medical assistant to Hartford pediatricians Dr. Desmond and then Dr. Curis. Later she went to work as a nurse’s aide at Newington Children’s Hospital from where she retired. Though she never married, Millie devoted her life to caring for children. Millie was a resident of Newington for over 40 years, including 20 years in which she shared her home with her sister Anna after Anna’s husband John passed away. She was a devout member of St. Mary’s Church in Newington for over 30 years. Millie was always full of fun and laughter. She loved movies, reading, bowling, playing (and winning) all kinds of card games, spoiling her nieces and nephews, and having a good time. She volunteered for many years at the Newington Senior Center gift shop where she made many good friends. Millie is survived by her nephew, George Wentworth (for whom she was a second mother) and his wife Barbara of Wethersfield; her great-niece, Elizabeth Paradis and her husband Brendan of Glastonbury; her great-nephew John Wentworth of Wethersfield; her sister-in-law Christine DeLois of Loveland, Ohio; her sister-in-law Helen DeLois of Brunswick, Maine; and many special nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews all over the country. Millie was predeceased by her two sisters, Conch Brunette and Anna Wentworth, and her four brothers, Jess, Frank, Jim and Larry DeLois; and a cherished nephew, David Wentworth. Millie’s family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to the staff of Jefferson House for the loving care that they provided over the last three and a half years of Millie’s life. We know that Millie always felt at home among women who work so hard every day to bring care and comfort to others.
