Emily J. Brown, 87, of Hollowayville, formerly of Marseilles and Ottawa, died April 12, 2010 at Ottawa Regional Hospital & Healthcare Center.

Emily was born July 3, 1922 in Marseilles to James and Barbara (Kauski) Spicer. She married S. Carl Brown on May 26, 1941 in his Aunt Alice and Uncles Ernie Browns garden in Ottawa. He died June 2, 1984. She worked for Nabisco in Marseilles, later as a sales clerk at Klines, JCPennys, and Jordans Hardware in Ottawa and later worked for Snap On Tools in Ottawa.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ottawa for more than 50 years and taught Sunday School for 15 years. She was also a member of PTA, AARP, KumDubbles, Serendipity, Secret Pal, and Senior Citizens. Over her lifetime she read different versions of the entire Bible 19 times.

She is survived by one son, Ernest J. (His fiance Judith Rodgers) Brown of Marseilles and one daughter, Sharon (Michael) Paglia of Hollowayville; 2 grandchildren, Darren (Tina) Meagher and Dene Thulin; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Georgia Scott-Bond of California and Elizabeth (Vernon) Mitchell of Ottawa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, S. Carl Brown; two brothers, Bud and Henry Spicer and two sisters, Olive and Mary. Pallbearers will be Roger Hallowell, Fred Krause, Chris Scholle, Randy and Randy Hooper, Jr. and Robert Barnes. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim Davies and Dr. Michael Harney,
