Emily Faith Higgins, 14, of Belton, TX, passed away on March 25, 2020.
Emily was born in Lawton, Oklahoma on May 6th, 2005 to Shonda Sammon and Jake Higgins. She brought with her sunshine and smiles wherever she went. Emily attended South Belton Middle School, and she was passionate about music, art and volleyball.
Emily spent her years at home in Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, and Texas exploring creeks and woods with her brother and friends – an expert frog and bug catcher at age 4. She learned to ride her bicycle without training wheels all by herself at age 5 – just took off and rode with no help and no fear. Similarly, she learned to swim at age 3 by confidently running off the diving board right into the deep end – with her momma in hot pursuit. Emily enjoyed traveling, finding new adventures, and spending time with her friends and very large extended family. Emily loved sharing memories around the table and relishing delicious dishes made by her parents, so much so that she was lovingly deemed “tasty biscuit” by her dad as a dinner-time nickname.
Emily cherished the time she spent with her family; having conversations with her brother, whom she adored, playing and singing kids’ movie songs with her little sisters (think…Frozen), sharing Starbucks® treats with momma, sharing Skittles®, and making memories with her family in Oklahoma and Texas. Emily always extended compassion and empathy to everyone that she met, and she would do all she could to make others around her smile and laugh with her crazy antics and wonderfully bright perspective of the world around her. Emily was always an ever-present little helper in all tasks, big and small. Emily had a beautiful voice and was often heard singing with gusto and passion – particularly from the shower (perfect acoustics). She loved making music, a student of violin, inspired by Lindsey Stirling, whom she and her mother saw perform in Austin, Texas.
Faith was a vitally important concept to Emily, and she surrounded herself with reminders of her faith in Jesus and also a faith in her ability to make things around her brighter and better. And, we know that when Emily left to return to her Heavenly Father, that He saw her coming from a long way off, and that He ran to her and threw His arms around her and kissed her.
Emily’s memory will forever be cherished by her loving parents: Shonda and Nathan Sammon and Jake and Jennifer Higgins, her siblings: Logan Higgins, Willow and Bailey Sammon, and Elissa and Alex Talley, her Grandparents, Great Grandparents and several wonderful Aunts, Uncles and Cousins, and her aussie shepherd, “River”. And she will always be missed by her very first best friend, Misa Gordy from her Manhattan, Kansas years.
