Emery Keszei passed away in his home on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at the age of 92. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Mary Ann (Kuminecz) Keszei; his children Judith A. (Thomas) Callahan of Granger and Patrick J. Keszei of South Bend; and his grandchildren Blake C. Callahan of Jacksonville, FL and Bradford P. Callahan of Ft. Meyers, FL. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Catherine; all of his brothers and sisters, Yolanda Hanley, Irene Derdak, Maryanne Bergh, Alex Keszei, Frank Keszei, Michael Keszei, Louis Keszei and Joseph Keszei.
Emery was born on July 19, 1921 to the late Vincent and Matilda (Horvath) Keszei. He graduated from Indiana University where he was a varsity wrestler. He served his country in WWII in the US Army and drove an Amphibian Tank in the Pacific Theater.
Emery worked in the South Bend Community School Corporation his entire professional life. He began his career as a teacher at Linden Elementary where he coached basketball. Some of his players went on to be part of the great South Bend Central teams. He ended his career as Director of Pupil Personnel . He was also very proud of working for the South Bend Police Department as a detective during the first several summers that he was a teacher.
Emery was an avid golfer and he also loved vegetable gardening. After his retirement Emery and Mary Ann spent many winters enjoying Florida.
