Elder Emanuel Burks was born on May 10, 1942 to the union of John Willie Burks and Nannie Davis Burks in Fayetteville, Tennessee. He departed this life on January 15, 2015 at Decatur Morgan Hospital-Decatur General Campus.
Elder Emanuel Burks received his formal education from West Clinton Junior High and Council High School, located in Huntsville, AL. He later served in the U.S. Army.
Elder Burks was employed at General Electric where he retired in 2005. He was highly loved and respected as a loyal band instrument repairman at Robbins Music Store in Huntsville, AL and Emiron Music Center of Decatur, AL. He enjoyed playing tennis, saxophone, and spending time with his family, friends and church members.
Elder Emanuel Burks accepted Christ as his Savior at First Missionary Baptist Church in Huntsville, AL under the leadership of The Rev. Dr. Julius Scruggs. In September of 1993, he was baptized in the name of Jesus at Pentecostal House of Prayer under the leadership of the late Bishop A. C. Strong. He served until his passing as the assistant pastor at United Pentecostal Jubilee House of Prayer under the leadership of Bishop Thomas D. Strong. Emanuel loved serving, working, testifying and helping others.
Elder Burks leaves to cherish his memory: a loving and devoted wife, Shirley Hughes Burks of Decatur; one daughter, Mavis Nicole Burks; one sister, Delores Brandon; one brother, John L. Burks of Huntsville; one mother-in-law, Louise Bailey of Decatur; six sisters-in-law, Denise (Roger), Johnson, Annette (Paul) Bradley Amanda (Lee) Spangler, Vickie (Thomas. D.) Strong, Kathleen Bailey all of Decatur, and Annie (John) Burks of Huntsville; one brother-in-law, Joe F. Scott of Decatur, a host of nieces, nephews and countless other friends and family who were blessed to have known him.
Elder Emanuel Burks touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end.
