Elwyn Brooks Owings, 87, of rural Huntsville, peacefully passed away at his home Saturday, April 3, 2021. He was born October 1, 1933, in Randolph County where he resided his entire life. Elwyn was the first son and second child of Otis and Bertha (Brooks) Ownings.

He was a member of the Massadonia Methodist Church of Rural Clark, MO, and was a 1951 graduate of Renick R-V School. Elwyn worked for Brown Shoe Factory, McGraw Edison, and later retired from DuPont in Moberly.

Elwyn was a supporter of local blood drives, the Red Cross, the Randolph County 4-H, and the Moberly FFA. He was a member of the Quarter Horse Association, Polled Hereford Association, Farm Bureau, Randolph County Cattleman’s Association, Randolph County Saddle Club, and the Texas Longhorn Association.

He was a livestock farmer at heart. He especially loved his quarter horses and Polled Hereford cattle.

Elwyn married Helen Anne Stallman, on January 6, 1953, in Sturgeon, MO and she preceded him in death, on October 19, 2019. Also preceding him in death were his parents, and his two faithful dog companions, Clyde and Bud.

Elwyn is survived by his children; Carma Schmidt and her husband Robert of Texas, Mike Owings and his wife Lisa of Oregon, Mark Owings and his wife Sylvia of Colorado, and Tad Owings and his wife Angela of Missouri: nine grandchildren; Leslie Schmidt-Taylor, Robert Michael Schmidt II and his wife Danielle, Amber Owings-Daller, Jeff Owings and his wife Lindsay, Crystal Akee and her husband Kaleb, Megan Owings, Amanda Wanous and her husband Andrew, Matthew Owings, and Thomas Owings: ten great-grandchildren; Cody and gage Buetow, Victoria Schmidt, Paislee Reynolds, Conner Wanous, Nicholas Rhodes, Adain and Addison Daller, and Jasmine and Elizabeth Akee, a sister and brother in law, Doris Lee Alton and her husband Milton of Mexico, MO, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
