Elwood R. Caudill, 81, of Nichols Branch, Clearfield, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

 

Born February 28, 1941, in Rowan County, he was a son of the late Alfred Caudill and Annie Conley Caudill Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Derwood Caudill, and two sisters, Shirley Ray Williams and Juanita Ginter.

 

His wife, Katherine Basford Caudill, also preceded him in death on March 4, 2001.

 

Elwood is survived by four children, Ronnie Caudill (Candy Marcum) of Clearfield, Donnie Caudill (Barb) of Olive Hill, Connie Caudill Bowles (Roger) of Clearfield, and Elwood Caudill, Jr. (Trina) of Morehead; nine grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.

 

Other survivors include four sisters, Bernice Haney of Clearfield, Linda Ballard (Hal) of Mt. Sterling, Faye Harper of Flemingsburg, and Susie Law of Morehead; one brother, Billy Caudill of Ewing; several nieces and nephews and other extended family and many friends.

 

In 1975, Elwood established Caudill’s Scrap Yard which he operated for more than 30 years. Prior to that, he was an employee of Lee Clay Products Company and Homer Gregory Lumber Company.

 

Elwood was recognized by Rowan County Fiscal Court and the Commonwealth of Kentucky for his dedication in keeping Rowan County’s environment clean and safe. He was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel in 2001 by Governor Paul Patton.

 

He loved family get-togethers and gardening, especially raising tomatoes. Elwood was a beloved father, papaw, brother, and friend who will be greatly missed and remembered with love.
