Elvin E. “Al” Aldridge, 90, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2018, following an illness.
Elvin was born on October 9, 1927 to the late Clarence and Mabel (Fix) Aldridge in Monroe, MI, and has lived in South Bend since 1959, coming from Monroe, MI. Along with his parents; Elvin was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lou Lorraine; and three brothers, Lawrence, James, and Everett Aldridge.
Al retired in 1985 from the Kraft Heinz Company, where he sold Planters Peanuts and other products for 30 years.
On January 22, 1955, he married JoAnne Raynal in Monroe, MI. She passed away on December 21, 2013.
Al is survived by his two daughters, Evelyn (Jim) Cummings of Fishers, IN; Michelle Aldridge of South Bend, IN; one sister, Joan Potter of West Palm Beach, FL; two step grandchildren, Sandra and Scott Cummings; and three step great-grandchildren, Casey, Cannan, and Courtney Cummings.
Al served in the Merchant Marines in World War II until he turned 18 years old, then was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served in Korea. He was a member of the Michiana Bicycle Association (M.B.A.) and was a Notre Dame Fan. Al was a hardworking, loving husband and father.
