Elva Wagnaar, 94, of Washington, passed away peacefully at 12:50 am, Sunday, February 20, 2022, at her residence while under hospice care with her daughter at her side.
She was born on January 26, 1928, in Peoria, the daughter of Hugh and Agnes May Maxwell. She married Albert Wagnaar on November 11, 1951, in Peoria. He passed away on July 15, 2011.
Surviving are one son, Clay (Julie) Wagnaar of Lake Placid, FL; one daughter, Karen (Lonnie) Kristler of Washington. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Jeff (Brittany) Wagnaar, Natalie (Bruce) Green, Matthew Kristler, Cody Kristler, Angie (Scott) Wages, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Her parents, four brothers, four sisters, and daughter-in-law Nancy Wagnaar preceded her in death.
She was a lifelong homemaker raising her family as the wife of a 20-year Air Force Veteran, being stationed in several U.S. cities as well as England and the Azores Islands. Settling in Washington in 1967, where she remained in her home for 55 years. In her younger days, she loved to bowl and was a league member for many years. Elva loved her family and enjoyed attending the grandchildren’s sporting events and hosting family holidays and birthday dinners. She enjoyed reading Murder She Wrote novels and putting together 1000 piece puzzles.
She was patient, kind, and mild-mannered, always in support of whatever challenge her family endured. Elva was a big Chicago Cubs fan and was thrilled when they finally won the World Series in 2016.
