Elva Louise Farnlund Vogt died peacefully in her Boise, Idaho, home on Friday, July 8, 2022. She had celebrated her one hundredth birthday eight months earlier.
Elva was born on November 19, 1921, on her family homestead in Ketchum, Idaho. Following her sister Mildred, Elva was the second daughter born to Clara and August Farnlund. The Farnlund family was eventually completed with four more sisters and two brothers.
The Farnlund children attended elementary school in Ketchum. Because winters were severe there, school closures were frequent due to heavy snow and impassable roads. With the children moving into the upper grades, their parents felt that their education was sketchy and unpredictable. For this reason, August made the decision to move his family to Mountain Home, Idaho, where he established a farm. His dream that all his children would graduate from high school was then realized.
After graduating from Mountain Home High School, Elva spent time as a cook on a ranch in the Bruneau area. Following her marriage to Harold Vogt, the couple lived near the military base where Elva was able to support the war effort doing military office work. When the war ended, they moved to Boise, Idaho. An early position Elva held in Boise was working for Mountain Bell Telephone Company, initially as an operator. Demonstrating a strong work ethic, integrity, and great loyalty, she continued on with the company. With many promotions over the years, she moved finally into their engineering department from which she retired at age 65.
Elva was married to Harold Vogt for twenty years. Together they had one son, Dennis.
After Elva’s retirement, she enjoyed working from her home as a professional seamstress.
