Elton Wetzel, Jr., 90, Anderson, passed away April 18, 2011 at Millers Merry Manor-Chesterfield.

He was born March 24, 1921 in Noblesville, Indiana, and resided in Anderson since 1954. Elton was a graduate of Noblesville High School and attended two years at West Virginia Wesleyan College. He served his country in the US Army as a staff sergeant during WWII in the Pacific Theater, serving in the following major campaigns, Guadalcanal, Phillipines, Solomon Islands and the liberation of Bougainville. He retired from the engineering department of from Delco Remy Division of General Motors. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Shrine Club and the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks.

He is survived by his wife whom he married November 26, 1954, Doris June Whitaker Wetzel; daughter, Lezlie Greg Mason of Anderson; brothers-in-law, Robert Whitaker of Greenfield and Bruce & wife Margie Whitaker of McCordsville; sister-in-law, Nedra & husband Cleo Jones; grandchildren, Jeremy Casey Mason, Matthew Veronica Mason and Megan Mason; great grandchildren, Jeron Mason and Jayden Chaboya; aunt, Opal Goodnight; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy Keesling and Elton Wetzel, Sr.; brother & sister-in-law, Donald E. & Phyllis Wetzel; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Lloyd & Vonda Whitaker. Special thanks to Miller’s Merry Manor for all their loving care and support.
