Elsie M. Surratt Todd, 87, of Meredosia, died Friday, August 8, 2014, at Heritage Health in Beardstown. She was born June 30, 1927, in Chambersburg, the daughter of Virgil and Lillian Phillips Allen. She married Donald W. “Binger” Surratt on June 30, 1945, and he preceded her in death on September 1, 1970. She later married Chester R. Todd on March 14, 1974, and he survives.
She is also survived by three sons and two daughters, Nick (Beverly) Surratt of Jacksonville, Jay (Joyce) Surratt of Meredosia, Steve (Debbie) Surratt of Defuniak Springs, FL, Kimberly (William) Vannier of Meredoisa, and Kaye Surratt of Urbana; eight grandchildren, Brad Surratt, Angela Surratt, Ryan Surratt, Matthew Surratt, Michelle (Stacey) Fanshier, Melissa (Brian ) Floyd, Jenny (Tim) Davidson, and Derek (Lindsay) Sturtevant; and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Gregory and Marilyn Bishop; and three brothers, Lloyd Allen (surviving wife Bernice of Meredosia), Herman Allen (surviving wife Mary Katherine Miller of Jerseyville), and Donald Allen.
Elsie was an active member of the Gospel Tabernacle Church in Meredosia. She enjoyed gardening and singing. She especially loved her family.
