Elsie Lucille Brownfield, 87, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away in the home of her son, Gary Brownfield, Sr. on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 due to complications of Alzheimer’s. She was born February 2, 1929, in Robinson, IL, to Ralph Lewis and Mabel Edith Corrie.
Elsie married Floyd F. Brownfield, Sr., on February 1, 1947, in Terre Haute, IN. Married for 63 years, she was Floyd’s full-time caregiver 6 years prior to his passing in November 2010.
Surviving are her children, Floyd Brownfield, Jr. (Rosalyn), Avon, IN; Gary Brownfield, Sr., (Jackie Price) Terre Haute, IN; Becky Waechter (Jeff), Chillicothe, IL. Grandchildren, Troy Brownfield, Plainfield, IN, Nick Waechter, Chillicothe, IL; Gary “Boo” Brownfield, Terre Haute, IN. Great grandchildren, Connor and Kyle Brownfield, Plainfield, IN, and her beloved pet poodle, Paris.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Ralph and Mabel Lewis, and husband Floyd Brownfield Sr. Siblings: As a child Elsie was raised by her grandmother, Eve Burkebyle. At the age of 83, Elsie requested a copy of her birth certificate to apply for a state ID.
