Elsie Hamlett Mitchell, 79, of 439 Ziglar Rd., Ridgeway, VA died Friday, March 5, 2010 in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, VA. Born in Halifax County, VA April 7, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Henry Lewis Hamlett and Bessie Lewis Hamlett and was the wife of the late Thomas Gordon Mitchell. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, H. B. Hamlett and Vernell Hamlett. Mrs. Mitchell was a member of Horsepasture Christian Church and was retired from Bassett Walker in Quality Control. Surviving are two daughters, Shirley M. Rakes of Collinsville and Judy M. Farthing of Danville; four sisters, Ruby Painter of Danville, Ann Hooker of Greer, SC, Christine Albert of Providence, NC and Phyllis Gibson of Blanche, NC; four brothers, Richard Hamlett of Ruffin, NC, Devon Hamlett and Ronnie Hamlett both of Providence, NC and Donnie Hamlett of Mebane, NC.; five grandchildren, Kenneth Bryon Rakes, Jr., Kristy Michelle Farthing, Laura F. Mayes, Rebecca Rakes Geramita and Kevin Wayne Farthing and by six great-grandchildren.
